MSG sensitivity: What symptoms ? How do you eat to avoid it ?

Like many in WD, MSG really messes with me. I learned this early on when I had Chinese food a few times during withdrawal, and INSTANTLY got a migraine aura, and dizziness/vertigo. I think back to when I was in acute withdrawal. It really fired up my symptoms. Now, it still affects me with headaches, dizziness and insomnia.

I’ve never really tried cutting it out 100%. I know there’s a lot of it hidden it processed foods, and it’s in a lot of food. I’d like to put 100% effort into cutting it out of my diet, but the list is long. It’s almost easier to say: “What CAN I eat to avoid MSG?”

What’s symptoms do you get from consuming MSG?
How do you eat daily to avoid it?

Back before my setback/cold-turkey when my only symptoms were GERD and 3AM cortisol surge, MSG would flare up my GERD. Now I avoid MSG like plague and dare not try. Honestly it’s not that hard to avoid MSG. There are even processed foods out there without it. They usually advertise it right on the box.

MSG - why avoid it?

I was wondering why MSG has a tendency to cause revved up symptoms while in withdrawals. I’ve read many posts about it. And from my own experience, enjoying the Asian and Mexican dishes was pretty bad 30 minutes to an hour later. To make sure it was the seasoning, I ate those same meals without seasoning or soy sauce and it was NO PROBLEM! What is it about MSG that our bodies don’t handle well?

Bone broth and Glutamate

Anybody have bad experiences with bone broth? Apparently it can contain glutamine, which converts to glutamate. We make our own broth with quality chicken. This last batch was simmered for 2 hours because it doesn’t release as much glutamate when cooked for a short time. I ate some yesterday and was revved up all night and sleep was horrible. Any opinions are appreciated.

I’d like to know if adding spices, tomato sauce, or any other sauces to my cooked food can Rev up my symptoms… I used to eat anything with no trouble. But some times after meals I feel awful. Anyone with advise on this, please.

Red meat has been a serious issue for me, too. I was diagnosed with Lyme and other parasites.

Interesting article.

kinda scary, these type of things.. I have a pretty bad tick history from several angles… 🙁
The pictures of meat in the adds looked slightly yummy, so I wont stress on it…
I must have heard of this here in Aust at some point, as it rang a dull bell..

Thanks…

Hey Cres, 🙂

Sorry, not very relavant I guess, but I often get dropped from some “reaction” after a “meal”… Size is a factor, from a small burger upwards… Meat is a factor, or say, deep fried…
-Stomache pain, deliberate breathing, sweats/fever, chills, tight numb/chewy burning up neck jaw and face..
I just have to lay down and it passes in a bit… -Sorry, I dont know why I get this…

Is there a pattern, or is this out of the blue..??
